How the Defence Pay Matrix Works
The 7th Central Pay Commission introduced a unified Pay Matrix for the Armed Forces to ensure equity across the Army, Navy, and Air Force. Key features of the pay matrix include:
- Military Service Pay (MSP): Paid monthly to compensate for the arduous conditions of defence service. MSP is ₹15,500/month for Officers and ₹5,200/month for JCOs/ORs.
- Dearness Allowance (DA): DA is calculated on (Basic Pay + MSP + Group X Pay).
- Group X Trade Pay: Personnel in technical Group X trades receive ₹3,600 per month additional trade pay.
- Annual Increment: 3% compound annual increment moving down the matrix cells within the respective pay level.
