About Non-Practicing Allowance (NPA)
Medical officers in Central Government service (CHS, Railway Medical Service, CAPF medical cadres, Armed Forces Medical Services) are granted Non-Practicing Allowance (NPA) at 20% of Basic Pay in lieu of private practice. Under 7th CPC recommendations accepted by the Ministry of Finance, total pay (Basic Pay + NPA) must not exceed ₹2,37,500 per month (the pay of Apex Level 17). DA is admissible on NPA, and NPA counts as basic pay for pension, gratuity, and HRA.
