How In-Hand Salary is calculated
Your Gross Salary is Basic Pay plus all allowances. Your In-Hand Salary (net take-home) is Gross Salary minus mandatory deductions like NPS, CGHS, CGEGIS, professional tax and income tax. Only the amount left after all deductions reaches your bank account.
Earnings (additions to salary)
- Basic Pay — as per your Pay Level and cell in the 7th CPC Pay Matrix.
- Dearness Allowance (DA) — currently 60% of Basic Pay (notified from 1 Jan 2026).
- House Rent Allowance (HRA) — 30% / 20% / 10% of Basic Pay for Class X / Y / Z cities.
- Transport Allowance (TPTA) — ₹3,600 + DA for Level 3+ in higher TPTA cities.
Deductions (subtracted from salary)
- NPS / UPS — 10% of (Basic + DA) for employees who joined on or after 1 Jan 2004.
- CGHS — ₹250 (L1–5), ₹450 (L6), ₹650 (L7–11), ₹1,000 (L12+).
- CGEGIS — ₹30 (L1–5), ₹60 (L6–11), ₹120 (L12+).
- Professional Tax — varies by state; typically ₹200/month.
- Income Tax (TDS) — depends on your total annual income and tax regime.
Worked example — Level 7, Class Y city
Basic Pay ₹44,900, DA 60%, Class Y city, TPTA ₹3,600 base.
- DA = ₹44,900 × 60% = ₹26,940
- HRA = ₹44,900 × 20% = ₹8,980
- TPTA = ₹3,600 + 60% DA = ₹5,760
- Gross = ₹44,900 + ₹26,940 + ₹8,980 + ₹5,760 = ₹86,580
- NPS = 10% of (₹44,900 + ₹26,940) = ₹7,184
- CGHS (Level 7) = ₹650 · CGEGIS (Level 7) = ₹60
- Total deductions = ₹7,184 + ₹650 + ₹60 = ₹7,894
- In-Hand ≈ ₹86,580 − ₹7,894 = ₹78,686
