📖 How 8th Pay Commission Salary & Arrears are Calculated
The formula for fixing pay in the 8th Central Pay Commission relies on the Fitment Factor applied to the current 7th CPC basic pay:
Key elements governing your monthly take-home salary:
- Dearness Allowance (DA): When a new pay commission is notified, existing DA (e.g. 60%) is merged into the revised basic, resetting the new DA counter to 0%.
- House Rent Allowance (HRA): Under standard government norms, HRA starts at 30% for Class X (Metropolitan), 20% for Class Y, and 10% for Class Z cities.
- Transport Allowance (TA): Transport allowance is paid according to pay level and location classification.
- Deductions (NPS / GPF): 10% of (Basic Pay + DA) is mandatorily deducted for National Pension System (NPS) along with CGHS and CGEGIS.
- Arrears Formula: If the 8th CPC takes effect from January 1, 2026 and gets implemented in August/September 2027, employees receive retroactive arrears equal to the monthly basic difference multiplied by the arrears period (approx 20 months).
